Caring For Your Candle

Did you know there are steps to take to ensure you get the most burn time and best use out of your candle!? It’s true -- and who better to ask about it than the women behind Creative Energy Candles. Today we are bringing you a few simple actions to take to care for your candle, straight from our office.

1. Burn your candle long enough to let the top layer of wax melt.

By burning your candle until the wax is uniformly melted on top, you prevent “tunneling.” Tunneling occurs when only the center of a candle’s wax melts, leaving hard wax around the edges each time you burn it. This wastes wax and diminishes the candle’s burn time significantly. This is especially important to do during the first time you light your candle.

A tunneling candle looks like this:

Fix tunneling using a hairdryer or the foil method.

If the hard wax rim around your candle is not very deep, blasting the top of the candle with a hairdryer should work to melt the wax enough to create a uniform layer. If the hard wax is thicker, you can use the foil method. To do this, light the candle then carefully wrap the top in aluminum foil with a hole in the middle, creating a domed lid. This will trap heat inside the candle to melt the wax uniformly.

Always trim your wick to ⅛ inch.

This is another way to prevent tunneling and keep soot from building up in your candle. If you do not have a wick trimmer, you can use nail clippers to do this!

Keeping these tips in mind, you will be able to enjoy your 2-in-1 lotion candle for longer!
