Repurpose Your Candle Vessels: Chic And Unique Ideas

So you want to be eco-friendly and repurpose your candle vessels? Well, you're in the right place! Upcycling old glass when your candle is finished is a great way to get creative and choose what's better for the environment. Let's get into it!

First things first - we need to get the leftover wax and the wick out of the glass. There are two ways to do this; hot water or the freezer method.

How to remove wax with hot water.

First you'll want to get a pot of water boiling, make sure it's enough to fill the glass almost completely full. Once your water is boiling, you can pour it into the candle. Leaving about an inch of space at the top. Now, don't forget, glass can break if the temperature of it is way colder than the hot, boiling water. So make sure to run the glass under hot in the sink to heat it up to avoid accidental breakage.

After you've poured in the boiling water, let it completely cool off. Since the water is very hot, it will melt the wax and it'll all float to the top. Now that it's cooled off, you can remove the wax with a paper towel and dump the rest of the water through a strainer. This way, if there's any wax still in the water, it won't get down your drain.

If boiling water is a little too intimidating, don't worry, we have another hot water hack that will do the trick!

Let the glass soak in hot water from your tap. You can either do this in your sink with a drain stopper or in a bowl big enough to fully submerge the glass. Be sure to remove the lid, if it has one, before soaking. After its been soaking for 30 minutes, the wax will be loosened up and easy to remove. Discard any wax from the water before draining.

How to remove wax in the freezer.

If removing it with water is not your jam, there is still another method to get the wax out. Put your used candle in the freezer overnight so that the wax shrinks a little bit. The next morning, take it out and flip it upside down onto a paper towel. You might have to tap the bottom to get it to fall all the way out or use a butter knife to wedge it out. Wipe out any remaining wax with a paper towel.

Now to remove the wick!

Usually with the hot water methods, the wick will loosen itself and float to the top with the wax. But if it doesn't, you can take a butter knife and gently wedge it under the wick to pop it off. Do the same with the freezer method!
